Pictured above are some of the 25 Volunteers who came together on Friday, Dec. 18 to pack 80 holiday food baskets for families in need in Vermillion and the surrounding area. Then on Saturday morning volunteers delivered the baskets/boxes to the families.
The baskets contain a wide array of nonperishable food products – pasta, soups, vegetables, cereals, etc., as well as toiletries – soap, facial tissues and bathroom tissue.  Before they were delivered to the homes, fresh produce was added to each basket.  Each basket also contained an envelope with a certificate to buy meat and dairy products.
The recipients are always happy to receive the gifts and have indicated that the baskets allow them to have a wonderful holiday meal that they otherwise would not be able to afford.  The recipients have also noted that the extra food in the baskets is a blessing following the holiday meal.
Four different groups provide the money and volunteers to make this project a reality.  The two largest groups in terms of volunteers are the Vermillion Rotary Club and the Vermillion Lions Club.  Our thanks to Ted Muenster, Steve Walters and Dick Abild for coordinating Rotary's considerable contribution to this effort.  And our thanks to Steve for the photos.
